Walden’s Gift
What would you do if you found $30,000 in cash?
Shortly after his dad passes away, Walden Pierce is walking home one day and stumbles upon a manila envelope containing $30,000 in cash and three names written on the front.
As he tracks down the people on the list, Walden finds himself pulled into a mystery that seems to connect strangers, secrets, and a surprising act of generosity.
The trouble is, after spending the last two years caring for his father and putting his own life on hold, Walden could desperately use the money himself.
He must decide whether the hidden fortune is the prize...or simply the first clue to discovering who he was always meant to be.
Reader Reviews
A sweet story about building community and starting anew. A page turner too- I had to know where the heck that money came from!
-Andrea
Such a great, thought provoking story. The characters were well developed and the plot moved quickly. I loved connecting to the town and many minor characters throughout the story. Such a great read!

Walden's gift is a delightful story that takes place in a small town, Westland Wisconsin. It was easy to cheer for the main character and hope that he finds and uses his gifts. This is Claire Lauer's debut novel.

Meet Claire LauerI’ve wanted to be an author since third grade.
For years, I wrote in the margins of real life, like late at night, during nap times, and between client work and everyday responsibilities. Now, those stories are finally making their way into the world.
My work blends mystery, small-town vibes, complicated relationships, and living generously.
When I’m not writing, you can find me speaking, helping entrepreneurs simplify their businesses, or revising a chapter for the hundredth (thousandth) time.
Or, if I’m being honest, reading books to my kids.
